MAME Light Gun Calibrate/Calibration

Here’s a suggestion for getting stubborn MAME games to work with a Light Gun.

If you don’t have two guns, use your mouse as the player 2 (P2) gun.

Go into the calibration controls (hit TAB) and set the X and Y axis for the first gun i.e. TopGun. Then set the X and Y axis for the second gun i.e. mouse (move the mouse left to right, and down to up to simulate the x and y movements).

After both ‘guns’ are set in the ‘TAB’ controls, then go into the games service menu to do the INGAME calibration (the service menu gun calibration is NOT the same as Mame’s ‘TAB’ calibration. Each game has a service menu which is accessed by either hitting the F2 (or 9 and F2 keys when starting the game).

Hope this helps..it worked for me.

Pretty much scratch all that:

  • Start the game
  • TAB > Dip Switches to change service mode – ON
  • Press ESC until you exit the Config Menu
  • Hit the soft reset(F3)
  • Right after the menu should appear which you can navigate with gun buttons
  • BTW service button is 9 but not very helpful.
  • TAB > Dip Switches to change service mode – OFF
  • Press ESC until you exit the Config Menu
  • Hit the soft reset(F3)
  • Game-On

To get the Light Guns to work with zombie raid, I use the NVRAM to store settings (calibration).
